Nanoplasty in Montreal: Price, How Long It Lasts and Aftercare (Client Guide)

Nanoplasty (often spelled nanoplastia) is the salon treatment people ask about when they want frizz-free, much straighter hair for months, without a daily flat iron. If you live in Montreal and are thinking about booking one, this guide explains what happens in the chair, how long the result lasts, what it usually costs in the city, who should wait, and how to make it last.

What nanoplasty is, in plain words

Nanoplasty is a straightening treatment. The stylist applies a professional product to your lengths, lets it work, rinses it out, then dries the hair completely and seals it strand by strand with a flat iron. The heat fixes the result. Compared with a hair botox, which mostly tames frizz, nanoplasty aims for real straightening; compared with many keratins, it is usually the stronger option on dense or curly hair.

Two honest limits. First, no professional treatment can promise 100% straight hair: the result depends on your natural texture, the condition of your hair and the stylist’s technique. Second, “nano” is a marketing word. What matters is the specific product and how it is applied.

How the appointment goes

A typical professional protocol, as published for the products Naturalook distributes in Canada, looks like this:

  1. One or two washes with a clarifying shampoo, to open the hair and remove residue.
  2. Drying until the hair is almost dry.
  3. Application of the product on the lengths, without touching the roots.
  4. Processing time of 1 to 2 hours, depending on how porous and how coarse the hair is.
  5. Rinsing, then a heat protectant.
  6. Drying at 100%, then sealing with the flat iron, section by section.

Plan for a long appointment: the processing time alone is 1 to 2 hours, before drying and flat-ironing. Bring something to read, and don’t book it right before an evening out.

How long does it last?

Nanoplasty products are rated to last about 3 to 6 months, and the strongest formulas 5 to 6 months. Your own result can be shorter or longer: it depends on your hair, how often you wash it and, above all, which shampoo you use (see aftercare below). The treatment is repeated when the effect starts to fade, not on a fixed calendar.

Treatment Main effect Typical longevity
Hair botox Less frizz, softness, shine; keeps more volume About 2–5 months
Keratin Smoothing, medium to strong straightening About 2–6 months, depending on the product
Nanoplasty Straightening, the strongest of the three About 3–6 months

How much does nanoplasty cost in Montreal?

Salons set their own prices, and most publish “starting from” prices that go up with length and density. Looking at public price lists of Montreal salons and booking platforms in October 2026, nanoplasty usually starts somewhere between about $250 and $480 before tax, with long and very thick hair at the top of the range or above. One Griffintown salon lists three levels by hair type, from $378 to $478 and up; booking platforms show offers from about $250.

When you compare prices, ask what is included: the clarifying wash, the flat-iron sealing, a trim, and whether the price changes for very long hair. A lower price for a short appointment can mean a shorter processing time.

Is it right for your hair?

Nanoplasty is usually suggested for wavy, curly, dense, coarse or frizzy hair that resists styling. There are specific versions for bleached or blond hair that neutralize warm tones, so colour-treated hair is not automatically excluded.

It is better to wait, or to choose something else, in these cases:

  • Very damaged hair (breaking, gummy when wet): a professional usually starts with a reconstruction without a flat iron and adds heat treatments only later.
  • Very fine hair: some strong formulas are not meant for it, and a softer smoothing may suit you better.
  • Pregnancy, or hair after chemotherapy: we do not make any safety claim. Talk to your doctor first.

Not sure? Our treatment quiz gives a first direction, and a good stylist will always look at your hair and test a strand before starting.

Questions to ask the salon before you book

  • Which product will you use, and what does the manufacturer say about formaldehyde? For the Felps products we know, the manufacturer does not state that they are formaldehyde-free, so the room should be well ventilated and the instructions followed.
  • Will you test a strand first?
  • How long is the appointment, and what is included in the price?
  • When can I wash my hair afterwards, and with what? The answer depends on the product, so ask your stylist.

Aftercare: how to make it last

The biggest enemy of a nanoplasty is the wrong shampoo. Clarifying shampoos and sulfate shampoos shorten the result of any straightening treatment, so switch to a sulfate-free shampoo and a nourishing conditioner or mask. Clarifying is for the next treatment day, not for your routine at home. If your hair is blond or grey, a purple shampoo helps keep warm tones away. Frequently asked questions

Does nanoplasty damage hair?

Any treatment sealed with a flat iron puts heat on the hair. That is why a professional checks the condition of your hair first, tests a strand and adapts the iron temperature. Very damaged hair usually needs a reconstruction before any straightening.

Can I get nanoplasty on coloured or blond hair?

Often yes, with the right product: there are versions made for bleached and blond hair that neutralize warm tones. Tell the stylist about every colour or bleaching service you had.

How long does the appointment take?

Several hours. The product alone stays on for 1 to 2 hours, then the hair is rinsed, dried completely and sealed with a flat iron.

Will my hair be completely straight?

Not necessarily. Nanoplasty is the strongest of the common smoothing treatments, but the result depends on your natural texture and the condition of your hair. No honest salon promises 100% straight hair.

Is nanoplasty safe during pregnancy?

We don’t make any safety claim for pregnancy. Talk to your doctor before booking.
