Bixyplastia Hair Treatment: How It Works, Who It Suits and How Long It Lasts

Close-up of long, smooth blonde hair

Bixyplastia is a salon smoothing service that combines plant oils with amino-acid actives and is sealed with a flat iron. It calms frizz and loosens waves with a softer touch than classic keratin, suits fine or coloured hair well and lasts up to about four months. Here is how it works, and what to use in Canada now.

Looking for Honma Tokyo in Canada?

Naturalook no longer distributes Honma Tokyo. Our exclusive brands Felps Professional and Prohall Professional cover the same services: keratin, hair botox, nanoplastia, bixyplastia. First pro order: HONMA10 for 10% off.

What is bixyplastia?

Bixyplastia sits between keratin and nanoplastia. In our comparison of keratin, hair botox, bixyplastia and nanoplastia, it is described as a treatment that works from the inside out with a straightening result of roughly 70–90%, while a classic keratin acts mostly on the outer layer of the hair and straightens more.

The version many Canadian salons knew was Honma Tokyo PlastHair Bixyplastia. Its formula brought together six Amazonian oils (babassu, Brazil nut, copaiba, pracaxi, passion fruit and urucum) designed to work with the cysteine naturally present in the hair, for more elasticity, strength and shine. Naturalook has stopped distributing Honma Tokyo in Canada, but the technique itself is still widely requested.

How a bixyplastia is done in the salon

The service follows the same logic as most thermal smoothing treatments: a clean base, careful application, then heat to seal. The PlastHair protocol looked like this:

  1. Wash two or three times with the clarifying shampoo of the system and rinse until no residue is left.
  2. Rough-dry to about half dry.
  3. Shake the bottle, then apply the treatment strand by strand, staying 1 cm away from the scalp.
  4. Let it work for about 30 minutes (a cap helps), then remove what is left with a fine-tooth comb.
  5. Dry the hair completely.
  6. Seal with the flat iron in thin sections, 1 cm wide at most.
  7. Let the hair cool for around 15 minutes, rinse without shampoo and leave a mask on for about 10 minutes.

Processing times and iron temperature always depend on the product used, so follow the protocol of the kit you work with.

Which hair does bixyplastia suit?

This is where bixyplastia differs most from a strong keratin. Honma Tokyo’s earlier product sheet aimed PlastHair at wavy hair (2A–2C) and curly hair (3A–3B); the brand’s current Brazilian page presents it for coloured, blonde, highlighted, fine and damaged hair. Retailers of the brand also describe it as gentler than a keratin treatment.

For resistant curls, Honma Tokyo offered a stronger Passion Fruit version, which its European distributor lists for curly 3C and coily 4A–4B hair. A simple rule for the consultation:

  • the client wants less volume and frizz but keeps some movement: a bixyplastia-type smoothing is a good fit;
  • the client wants a sleek, very straight finish on thick or very curly hair: look at a keratin or a nanoplastia instead.

How long does bixyplastia last?

Expect up to about four months, which is also the figure given by retailers of the Honma Tokyo version. Nanoplastia usually lasts longer, up to about six months, and straightens more. The real duration depends on the starting texture, how often the client washes and which products are used at home. Honma Tokyo itself gave no figure and only spoke of a lasting smoothing.

Is bixyplastia safe for the hair?

Done by a certified professional who respects the iron temperature and the technique, a bixyplastia does not damage the hair. That is also why these products are sold to salon professionals only, not to the public. The risk comes later, from daily heat styling without protection, which is why aftercare matters.

Aftercare: the first days count

  • Wait 24 hours before washing the hair.
  • Do the first wash without shampoo: rinse, apply a mask for 5–10 minutes, rinse again, then blow-dry and flat-iron to set the result.
  • From the second wash on, use a shampoo without silicone and without salt.
  • Flat irons and curling tools are fine later, with a heat protector and not too often.

The full routine is in our guide to maintenance after a bixyplastia.

Frequently asked questions

Is bixyplastia the same as a keratin treatment?

No. A classic keratin works mostly on the outer layer of the hair and straightens the most. Bixyplastia works from the inside out, straightens about 70–90% and leaves more movement.

Which hair is bixyplastia best for?

Wavy and loosely curly hair, and hair that is fine, coloured, blonde or fragile. For very curly or coily hair that needs a sleek result, a nanoplastia or a stronger keratin is usually a better choice.

How long does a bixyplastia last?

Up to about four months. Nanoplastia lasts longer, up to about six months, and straightens more.

Can the client use a flat iron after a bixyplastia?

Yes, from the first wash on, with a heat protector and not too often: too much heat damages the hair.

Can I still buy Honma Tokyo PlastHair Bixyplastia in Canada?

Naturalook has stopped distributing Honma Tokyo in Canada. The closest equivalent is Natureza Magic Brush Maracuja, sold to licensed professionals on naturalook.shop, with 10% off a first professional order using code HONMA10.
