Green Coffee Nanoplastia: What It Is, Which Hair It Suits and How It Differs from Keratin

Hairdresser straightening a client’s long hair in the salon

Green coffee nanoplastia is a single-step salon smoothing, known in Canada through Honma Tokyo Coffee Green Protein Complex. The product goes on dry hair, is rinsed out without shampoo and then sealed with a flat iron. It targets strong straightening, even on resistant curls. Here is how it works, who it suits and what to use now.

Naturalook no longer distributes Honma Tokyo. Our exclusive brands Felps Professional and Prohall Professional cover the same services: keratin, hair botox, nanoplastia, bixyplastia. First pro order: HONMA10 for 10% off.

What is green coffee nanoplastia?

Honma Tokyo Coffee Green Protein Complex combines green coffee, mint extract and a protein complex selected to work together with the cysteine in the hair. The manufacturer promises straightening, intense gloss, hydration and frizz control. In Brazil the brand calls its technology “vaniliplasty”; its European distributor sells the same product as a nanoplastia.

If you are new to the category, our article What is nanoplastia? explains the principle: amino-acid formulas that, with heat, act inside the hair fibre rather than only on its surface.

A single-step protocol

Unlike a keratin, Coffee Green does not start with a series of clarifying washes and does not end with a mask. The whole service relies on one product:

  1. Apply the product to dry hair, evenly along the lengths and 1 cm from the roots. Very dirty hair is first washed with a clarifying shampoo and dried completely.
  2. Leave it on for 40–50 minutes, ideally under a cap.
  3. Rinse generously, massaging until a rich foam forms and then keep going until no product is left (7–10 minutes). If needed, do it once more, always without shampoo.
  4. Blow-dry the hair completely with warm air.
  5. Seal with the flat iron in sections no wider than 1 cm, with 7–10 passes on each section.

Which hair does it suit, and which it does not

Honma Tokyo lists Coffee Green for wavy (2A–2C), curly (3A–3C) and coily (4A–4C) hair, and its European distributor presents it as able to straighten up to 100%, even resistant Afro-textured hair. That makes it the strongest of the three treatments discussed in this series. Honma Tokyo also had a second single-step smoothing, Collagen Bio Coconut Discipline, made for all hair types; in Canada both now have the same equivalent (see below).

Two limits to keep in mind at the consultation:

  • assess the damage first: really damaged hair is not a candidate;
  • very fine hair that has been bleached is excluded too. For fine or fragile hair that mostly needs less frizz, a gentler bixyplastia is a safer choice.

Nanoplastia or keratin?

In our comparison of keratin, hair botox, bixyplastia and nanoplastia, nanoplastia is the treatment that works from the inside out with a straightening result of up to 100%, while a keratin works mostly on the outer layer. In practice:

  • Duration: a nanoplastia generally lasts longer, up to about six months, against three to four months for a keratin;
  • Service: Coffee Green is a single product rinsed out before ironing, while a coffee keratin follows a three-step routine with clarifying shampoo and mask;
  • Choice: the starting texture, the hair’s condition and the finish the client wants matter more than the name of the technique.

How long it lasts and aftercare

Honma Tokyo’s Brazilian site gives no figure. Based on salon experience, the effect lasts four to six months. Honma Tokyo’s European distributor also mentions up to six months, with touch-ups on the regrowth every 60–90 days. The treatment can be repeated monthly if needed. After the service:

Felps Açaí Oil Nanoplastia thermal sealing, 1 L bottle

Naturalook has stopped distributing Honma Tokyo in Canada. The closest equivalent it stocks is Felps Açaí Oil Nanoplastia, a thermal-sealing nanoplastia for strong smoothing. Its product card covers every hair type, with a focus on dense, coarse and curly hair that frizzes and resists smoothing, and gives a longevity of 5–6 months. It is for licensed salon professionals only. Follow its own protocol rather than the Coffee Green one: an independent professional retailer lists 10–25 flat-iron passes for this product, more than the 7–10 of Coffee Green.

For very thick, coarse or afro-textured hair that needs maximum frizz control, Prohall Burix One is another option.
